Brigadier General Edward A. O’Neal, CSA. Future Governor of Alabama, on July 1, 1863, O’Neal led a premature attack from Oak Hill against the Union line on Mummasburg Road, just north of the Doubleday Inn. His brigade was quickly beaten back by the Federals.
